The Oshtemo Fire Department currently has twelve vehicles in its fleet. The fleet is made up of three engines, one telesquirt, one snorkel, one rescue squad, three brush trucks, two cars, and one Haz-Mat decon truck/trailer.
An engine is a truck that is able to pump water, has its own water tank, and carries various hoses, ground ladders, breathing air packs, and other firefighting equipment. The telesquirt is a fire apparatus that has a aerial device as well as the same functions as an engine. The snorkel is an articulating platform device that has a pump, a small water tank, hose, ground ladders, and tools for forcible entry into and out of structures. Our rescue squad has trench rescuse equipment, vehicle extrication equipment, and 36 extra air cylinders for our breathing apparatus.

There are two engines, one snorkel, one car, and one brush truck that respond from Fire House 1. The telesquirt, rescue squad, one car, one brush truck respond out of Fire House 2. Also located at Fire House 2 is the Haz-Mat decon truck/trailer which responds to any Haz-Mat incident in Kalamazoo County. One engine and one brush truck respond out of Fire House 3.
Each vehicle operated by the fire department has its own unique three digit number. The numbering system is the same county wide except for the two cities (Kalamazoo & Portage) as well as the South Kalamazoo County Fire Authority. The first number of three indicates what department the truck belongs to, each department is given a number from 1-17. All Oshtemo trucks start with the number "5", Oshtemo's department designation in Kalamazoo County is "5." The second number tells what the function of the apparatus is. The numbers 1,2, and 3 indicate engines, the number 4 is an aerial device, the number 5 is a rescue vehicle, the number 6 is a tanker, the number 7 is brush vehicle, and the number 8 is utility vehicle. The thrid number of the apparatus tells us what station within the department the apparatus is stationed at.
A truck with a number of 533 tell us that this is an engine from the Oshtemo Fire Department stationed out of Fire House 3. A truck with a number of 1161 tells us that this is a tanker from Texas Township stationed out of Texas Station 1.
Please visit the Fire House links to see more detailed information about the apparatus located at that Fire House.
