Feb 8 - OFD Trains with Texas Township
On February 8th, the Oshtemo Township and Texas Township fire departments conducted a joint training on ice rescue. Texas Township provides ice rescue services to Oshtemo Township, however Oshtemo firefighters are expected to play a support role for ice rescues in Oshtemo and Texas Townships. The training was a review of the equipment used by Texas Township as well as the role Oshtemo firefighters will play during a ice rescue.
Because ice rescue is a technical rescue specialty, not all area fire departments are certified in ice rescue. Oshtemo utilizes the technical expertise of the Alamo Township and Texas Township fire departments in ice rescue scenarios. Ice rescues can be staffing intense, Oshtemo firefighters are able play a support role by tending the safety lines the rescuers use when going out on the ice. Oshtemo Township responds to Texas Township automatically for any ice rescue north of R Avenue in order to support Texas’ technical rescue personnel.
